Claudia Johnson Takes Omnicom Media’s Integrated Commerce Brief

Omnicom Media has named Claudia Johnson chief solutions officer for integrated commerce, a role that spans its Omni marketing intelligence platform and Flywheel, the commerce business it acquired.
- New role: chief solutions officer, integrated commerce, Omnicom Media
- Seven years at Flywheel, from senior vice president of partnership acceleration to chief client officer
- Latterly technical advisor to the chief executive, translating client demands into product decisions on Omni
- Earlier: eCommerce capability for Kimberly-Clark’s family and adult-care brands across EMEA
- Before that: Target, where she worked on moving the retailer’s website off Amazon’s platform
What Claudia Johnson Brings That Is Rare
The useful thing in the record is breadth rather than speed. Supply chain, inventory planning, product information management and client advisory work are four separate disciplines, and almost nobody in commerce media has operated in all of them before moving to strategy.
That matters because integrated commerce, the phrase in the title, is precisely the demand that those functions stop being separate. Brands increasingly want one team that can move from shelf content to sales performance without handing the account between departments.
The Job Is Post-Acquisition Plumbing
Omnicom assembled its commerce offer partly by buying Flywheel, and putting acquired pieces together is never only an org-chart exercise. The platforms, the data and the client relationships all have to be reconciled.
Appointing someone who has worked both sides, Flywheel’s operations and the advisory function on Omni, is the cheapest way to accelerate that. It also answers the question clients ask after any acquisition, which is whether the people they deal with are still there.
The Test
Integrated commerce is a crowded pitch. Holding companies, retail media networks and Amazon’s own advertising business are chasing the same budgets with broadly the same promise.
The Target detail is the one worth holding on to. Moving a major retailer’s site off a rival’s platform is an unusually concrete thing to have done, and it is the kind of experience that separates a commerce strategy from a commerce deck. Whether a combined Omni and Flywheel offer beats the sum of its parts is the thing she will be measured on.
