The Central Bureau of Communication, or CBC, has given 90 private cable and satellite television channels until 21 October 2026 to submit pending documentation for fresh empanelment. Channels that do not comply face immediate de-empanelment.

  • Who issued it: the Central Bureau of Communication, in an advisory dated 1 October 2026
  • How many channels: 90 private cable and satellite channels
  • Deadline: 21 October 2026
  • What is required: deficient compliance records uploaded through the CBC's ERP portal using organisational logins
  • The consequence named: immediate de-empanelment
  • Status of the notice: a final compliance notice, following an earlier request made on 5 August
  • Genres affected: news, entertainment, movies, music, kids and factual
  • Channels named include: Zee Telugu News, News Tamil 24x7, Star Gold Select, Star Vijay Super, Asianet Movies, VH1, Comedy Central, National Geographic Channel HD, Disney Channel HD and Sun TV Network properties

Why CBC Empanelment Decides Real Money

Because it is the gate on government advertising. A channel that is not empanelled cannot carry central government campaigns or public notices, and for a large part of the regional television market that revenue is not a supplement, it is the floor under the rate card.

The list is also telling. It spans the biggest networks in the country alongside regional news channels, which suggests a documentation exercise rather than a dispute about any individual broadcaster.

What Media Planners Should Actually Do With This

Check the list before committing government or PSU budgets past 21 October. A de-empanelled channel does not stop broadcasting, it stops being eligible, and a plan built on an eligibility that lapses mid-flight is a reconciliation problem rather than a reach one.

The Part Worth Reading Twice

This is the second notice, not the first. The August request went out two months ago, which means the channels on this list have already missed one deadline, and the language this time names the penalty rather than implying it.
