What The Bajaj Consumer Care Numbers Show
Profit growing considerably faster than revenue. Expenses did rise, to Rs 254.68 crore from Rs 221.70 crore, so the gap is not cost-cutting; it is that a quarter of additional revenue arrived against a smaller proportional increase in what it cost to earn.
The half year confirms the direction rather than contradicting it. Consolidated revenue reached Rs 674.40 crore against Rs 538.66 crore, profit after tax Rs 140.90 crore against Rs 80.57 crore, and earnings per share Rs 10.79 against Rs 6.17.
The Line Worth Reading For Anyone In Advertising
Advertising and sales promotion came to Rs 41.65 crore in the September quarter, against Rs 38.89 crore a year earlier. That is a rise of roughly 7 per cent while revenue rose 25.5 per cent.
In other words, the growth was not bought with media weight. For a personal care company competing for shelf space and attention, holding advertising close to flat while revenue grows a quarter is either a distribution story or a pricing one, and it is the sort of ratio that tends to attract board attention in the other direction next year.
What To Watch In The Second Half
The company is heading into the second half of FY27 with the festive quarter behind the September numbers rather than inside them, which is where a personal care portfolio usually finds its volume.
The question the half-year figures raise is whether the margin improvement holds once promotional intensity returns. A 7 per cent increase in advertising against 25 per cent revenue growth is a difficult ratio to repeat, and the competitive response in hair care is rarely slow.
