Avik Chatterjee To Take Over As CEO Of Speciality Restaurants

Avik Chatterjee will take over as Director and Chief Executive Officer of Speciality Restaurants from the first quarter of FY27, moving up from Executive Director for Innovation and New Formats.
- New role: Director and CEO, Speciality Restaurants, effective Q1 FY27
- Previous role: Executive Director, Innovation and New Formats
- Portfolio: Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Asia Kitchen, Sigree, Hoppipola, Episode One, Sweet Bengal, Gong and Walters Burger
- Priorities: strengthening core brands, market expansion, new formats and operational efficiency
A Succession Rather Than A Hire
Chatterjee is the son of Anjanmoy Chatterjee, the group's Chairman and Managing Director, and has worked inside the business across menu development, operations and brand strategy rather than arriving into the corner office from outside.
His father framed it in exactly those terms, saying that Avik has grown up within this business and that the transition reflects a natural progression rather than a departure.
Where The Growth Is Expected To Come From
Speciality runs a portfolio that spans fine dining, casual dining and quick formats, in India and internationally. Mainland China remains the best known of them, but the group has spent recent years adding smaller and more flexible brands around it.
The incoming chief executive has signalled that this is where the emphasis moves next, saying the group will continue to reinforce its core brands while placing greater emphasis on newer formats including cloud kitchens and smaller footprints.
That reads as a straightforward reading of the economics. A full-service restaurant carries rent, staffing and covers that a cloud kitchen does not, and the brands most able to expand quickly are rarely the ones that need the most floor space.
