Nexedge Capital Names Apurva Sahijwani Co-Founder

Nexedge Capital has appointed Apurva Sahijwani as co-founder, bringing in the former chief executive of Avendus Wealth Management as the firm targets India's affluent market.
- Role: co-founder, Nexedge Capital
- Previously: managing director and CEO, Avendus Wealth Management, May 2024 to September 2026
- Before that: head of private banking at Axis Bank
- Earlier: Kotak Securities, ICICI Bank, HSBC, Citibank and Kotak Wealth Management
- Experience: more than 28 years in private banking and wealth management
What The Apurva Sahijwani Appointment Is For
Depth rather than reach. Nexedge is an independent firm expanding its offering for ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and corporates, which is a market where the relationship rather than the product decides where money goes.
The Avendus period is the most relevant part of the record. Sahijwani led a rebuilding exercise there that helped develop the business into one of the country's fastest-growing private wealth franchises, which is a different exercise from growing one that already works.
The Burgundy Private Years
Before Avendus came Axis Bank, where Sahijwani played a key role in launching and scaling Burgundy Private, the bank's private wealth management business.
Launching a private bank inside a commercial one is a specific discipline: the client is already somewhere in the group, the brand carries retail associations that have to be overcome, and the proposition must justify a fee against a relationship that was previously free. Few people in Indian wealth management have done it from a standing start.
Why Independents Are Hiring Institutional Operators
Because affluent Indian families are asking for more specialised advice on investments and succession than a product-led platform can give, and because the people who can answer those questions were trained inside large institutions.
The title is the signal worth noting. Sahijwani joins as co-founder rather than as a chief executive, which aligns the incentive with the firm's own growth rather than with a mandate to deliver somebody else's. In a business where client relationships travel with the banker, that distinction is the whole arrangement.
