What The Suswaram Collection Contains
Two lines that take opposite approaches to the same inheritance. The Archival line recreates seven sarees worn by M S Subbulakshmi and Radha Viswanathan, working from their personal style and, Aikyatha states, a design language drawn from the notes Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.
The Interpreted line does not copy anything. It takes five ragas, Saveri, Shankarabharanam, Kalyani, Kambhoji and Bhairavi, and translates the mood of each into colour, motif and weave.
Why The Second Voice Matters Here
Because the campaign is about transmission rather than a single figure. Radha Viswanathan performed alongside her mother for more than five decades and was described as the second voice in those performances, a relationship that ran from guru and disciple to mother and daughter.
S Aishwarya and S Saundarya describe that inheritance as everyday rather than historical, shaped by discipline and devotion they grew up inside. The film frames tradition as something lived and reinterpreted rather than preserved intact.
The Commercial Question Underneath
Yeshwanth Sunku, Co-founder and Chief Brand Strategist at Aikyatha, said heritage gains meaning when it continues to be lived, and that the two lines represent preserving a sartorial legacy and interpreting a musical one.
The harder part is the format. A limited edition sold by private appointment across three stores is a deliberately small funnel, and the campaign has to carry a cultural argument to an audience that will mostly meet it on a phone and never see the cloth. Handcrafted packaging and a QR-led appointment are the bridge the brand has built for that gap.
