Adobe has named Anil Chakravarthy its president and chief executive, effective 1 December 2026, with Shantanu Narayen moving up to executive chair after leading the company for close to two decades.

  • New role: president and chief executive officer, Adobe, from 1 December 2026
  • Also joining: Adobe's board of directors
  • Currently runs: the Customer Experience Orchestration business and worldwide field operations
  • Joined Adobe: January 2020, as executive vice president and general manager of the Digital Experience business
  • Predecessor: Shantanu Narayen, who becomes executive chair and works closely with him through the transition

What Anil Chakravarthy Has Actually Run

He was elevated to president of Digital Experience and worldwide field operations in December 2021, and his remit has since included acquisitions, among them Workfront and Semrush.

That combination matters more than the title history. Digital Experience is the half of Adobe that sells to marketers rather than to creatives, and worldwide field operations is the machine that actually books the revenue. A chief executive drawn from there is a chief executive who knows the enterprise customer better than the design one, at a company whose public identity still rests on the creative tools.

The Record Before Adobe

Chakravarthy spent four years as chief executive of Informatica, which he joined in 2013, and held leadership roles at Symantec and VeriSign. He began at McKinsey and Company as a consultant.

He holds a bachelor of technology in computer science and engineering from the Institute of Technology in Varanasi, and an MS and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Frank Calderoni, Adobe's lead independent director, said the board had unanimously determined that he is the right leader for the company's next chapter of growth. The appointment lands a week before Adobe reports its third-quarter results for the 2026 financial year on 10 September. More appointments.
