Madison World Appoints Abhay Sachar AVP For Turnt And Anugrah

Abhay Sachar has joined Madison World's out-of-home businesses, Turnt and Anugrah, as AVP for West and South, moving from WPP Media. He shared the news on LinkedIn.
- New role: AVP, West and South, Turnt and Anugrah, Madison World
- Previous role: Partner, Content (Fulcrum), Strategy, Partnerships and Media Innovations, WPP Media
- Experience: over 18 years across broadcasters, publishers and media networks
- Spans: media strategy, content, marketing, brand communication and business development
- Earlier: Kommune India, NEWJ, VICE Media, Times Studio, Viacom18 Media, GroupM, Reliance Broadcast Network, Planman Marcom
A Content Person Hired Into Out-Of-Home
The interesting thing about this appointment is what Sachar was doing immediately before it. He was not selling out-of-home. He was a content partner inside WPP Media's Fulcrum practice, working on strategy, partnerships and media innovations, and his earlier employers read like a list of places that made things rather than sold sites: VICE Media, NEWJ, Times Studio, Kommune India.
Madison appointing that profile to run two OOH businesses across West and South is a statement about where it thinks the growth is. A pure inventory seller optimises occupancy and rate. Someone from content is being asked a different question, which is what a brand could do with a location that a poster would not achieve.
Two Businesses, The Country's Two Biggest Markets
Turnt and Anugrah are Madison's out-of-home arms, and West and South together carry the bulk of India's OOH spend: Mumbai and Pune on one side, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad on the other. Handing one person both regions across both businesses concentrates a lot of the group's outdoor revenue in a single seat.
Kommune India is the entry worth pausing on. It is a spoken word and storytelling collective, which is about as far from a media owner's rate card as an eighteen year career in this industry can take you, and exactly the kind of experience that produces ideas for a physical site rather than a price for it.
