Shipra Chinchankar Named National Planning Director At Kinnect

Kinnect has appointed Shipra Chinchankar as national planning director, leading the planning function nationally at the agency, which is part of Omnicom Advertising India.
- Agency: Kinnect, part of Omnicom Advertising India
- Role: National planning director
- Reports to: Chandni Shah, CEO, Kinnect and 22feet
- Experience: More than 19 years in strategy and planning
What Shipra Chinchankar Has Been Hired To Do
Lead planning across the country, with a mandate the agency describes as bringing a sharper strategic brand and business lens to its work. The context given is the agency's push towards more connected, multi-platform brand solutions, which is a planning problem before it is a media one.
Chandni Shah, chief executive of Kinnect and 22feet, framed the hire around convergence, arguing that as brand, commerce, content and technology come together, the organisations that turn complexity into decisive strategic action hold the advantage.
The Record
Nineteen years, and most of it on brands Indian households can name. The path runs through the erstwhile FCB Ulka, JWT and Lowe Lintas, covering brand architecture, market launches and growth across categories, with work on Amul, Tata Teleservices, TCS, Good Knight and Parag Milk Foods.
The longest stretch, 13 years at the erstwhile Lowe Lintas, was spent largely inside the Unilever portfolio: Surf Excel, Vim, Glow and Lovely, Knorr. The highlights the agency names are the Surf Excel campaigns built around Ramzan and Holi, which is festival work judged on whether it earns a place in the occasion rather than on recall alone.
Launches And Turnarounds
Alongside the Unilever years sit three jobs of a different kind: a contribution to the launch of the Hershey's chocolate portfolio in India, the revitalisation of Complan, and the launch of Prudential Health in India. A launch and a revival ask opposite questions of a planner, and having both on a record is the argument for a national brief.
Chinchankar's own account of the move was about joining the two halves: experience in understanding people, brands and business, brought into new-age media and multi-platform brand building, with the aim of work that creates lasting value rather than only momentary engagement. "Every creative idea needs a bit of logic, and every piece of logic needs a bit of creativity."
