IKEA India Appoints Jessamine Avila as Chief Marketing Officer

IKEA India has named Jessamine Avila as its new Chief Marketing Officer, putting a 12-year IKEA veteran in charge of the brand's marketing strategy across physical and digital channels in one of its fastest-growing markets.

Jessamine Avila's Global IKEA Career

Avila brings more than 20 years in marketing and brand building, with her IKEA tenure spanning assignments in Australia and on the company's global marketing team in Malmö, Sweden, where she worked on brand and marketing transformation initiatives focused on customer relevance and long-term growth. That mix of a mature Western market and IKEA's global playbook is precisely the background the company is betting will translate into a market as fast-changing as India.

"Together with the IKEA India team and our agency partners, I look forward to building meaningful communication that strengthens local relevance and brings IKEA closer to everyday life at home," Avila said.

Building on Local Resonance

IKEA has leaned on locally-rooted storytelling and immersive retail experiences to build consumer resonance in India, moves that have pushed the brand beyond simple awareness into broader popular-culture conversations in urban India. Avila's mandate is to keep deepening that local relevance while scaling the brand's omnichannel reach, a balancing act between a famously standardised global brand identity and the market-specific creative India has responded to so far.

IKEA has been expanding its physical footprint in India well beyond its original Hyderabad store, adding city-format outlets in denser urban pockets alongside its larger destination stores, a shift that puts more pressure on marketing to work across formats rather than a single flagship experience. Avila inherits that expanding footprint at a moment when the brand is also leaning harder into e-commerce and app-based ordering, meaning her CMO mandate spans far more channels than IKEA's India marketing team managed even three years ago.
