EHL Group has appointed Dr Achim Schmitt as chief executive, effective 1 January 2027. Dr Markus Venzin steps down at the end of 2026 after a period the board describes as strategic transformation.

  • Incoming: Dr Achim Schmitt, currently dean and a member of the executive leadership team
  • Outgoing: Dr Markus Venzin, stepping down at the end of 2026
  • Effective: 1 January 2027
  • Under Venzin: AACSB accreditation, B Corp certification, and the creation of the School of Practical Arts
  • Board: Dr Carole Ackermann chairs EHL Group

Achim Schmitt Is An Internal Promotion, Which Is The Point

Schmitt is not arriving from outside. He is the sitting dean, already on the executive leadership team, which makes this a continuity appointment rather than a change of direction. Institutions that have just completed a transformation usually want exactly that.

The record Venzin leaves is specific rather than atmospheric. AACSB accreditation and B Corp certification are both externally audited, and the School of Practical Arts was created to give students and industry partners hospitality competencies suited to a digital and AI-driven environment.

What The New Mandate Says

Schmitt's stated focus is to put the educational mandate at the centre of the group's activities while holding academic rigour and operational excellence, with practical arts and human-centred leadership named specifically. Carole Ackermann credited Venzin's strategic vision and determination in positioning EHL for long-term success.

The institution enters the handover with campuses in Switzerland and Asia, strong student demand and solid financial performance. More leadership moves.
