What Bivabasu Kumar Is Communicating
One of the hardest briefs in Indian corporate communications. Kumar has led media and corporate communication for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project since October 2024, and describes it as one of the most complex urban regeneration programmes of its kind in Asia, with work that turns on building trust and understanding around a project touching people and livelihoods.
That is a different discipline from product or brand communications. The audiences are residents, officials and reporters at once, and they do not want the same thing from the same statement.
The Infrastructure Grounding
Afcons Infrastructure, a Shapoorji Pallonji Group company, from February 2013 as manager for corporate communications, senior manager from October 2015 and later head of corporate communication. The work there covered nation-building projects where the engineering is complex and the public interest is constant.
It also went beyond India. Critical and time-sensitive projects across Asia, the Middle East and Africa brought work with embassies and stakeholders from different governments and nationalities, with the Greater Male Connectivity Project in the Maldives described as the most challenging of them.
Before That, A Newsroom
Kumar spent roughly seven years in journalism before crossing over, and specifically in sport. Principal correspondent at The Times of India from May 2011 to February 2013, covering cricket and helping set up the sports desk for the Kochi edition, and chief sub editor at The Telegraph in Kolkata before that.
Kumar describes the arc as a move over two decades from journalism to leading corporate communications for complex infrastructure and urban regeneration projects, with the work running from building reputations and handling crises to making complex businesses easier to understand.
