Adobe Buys A One-Year-Old Indian Startup And Shuts Its Product

Adobe has acquired Rilo, an India-based marketing intelligence startup, in a deal that licenses its technology and brings its team across. Terms were not disclosed, and the product itself is being shut down.

  • Target: Rilo, founded September 2025 by IIT Bombay batchmates Dhruv Jaglan and Georgi Boby
  • Funding raised: $1 million seed from Peak XV Partners, DeVC and Day Zero Ventures at a $10 million valuation
  • Traction: 10,000 users within months of launch
  • What transfers: some of Rilo's intellectual property and its six-member team
  • What does not: the platform, which will be shut down and is no longer available to existing customers

This Is A Hire, Not A Product Purchase

The shape of the deal tells you what Adobe wanted. Six people and some intellectual property move; the platform closes; existing customers lose the service. Nobody buys a product with 10,000 users in order to switch it off, so the value here was the team and the approach rather than the software.

What Rilo built is worth noting for what it says about where marketing tooling is going. Its platform let go-to-market teams describe complex workflows in plain English and had AI agents build and run them, across competitor intelligence, content repurposing and sales call analysis. That is agentic marketing operations, and it is the capability every large suite is currently trying to acquire rather than build.

Adobe's Second Indian Deal

This follows Adobe's acquisition of video platform Rephrase.ai in 2023, making it the company's second deal involving an Indian company. It also comes after Adobe's $1.9 billion purchase of SEO platform Semrush in 2025, which was a rather different kind of transaction.

Rilo's investors get an exit roughly a year after seeding the company, which for a $10 million valuation is a quick and presumably acceptable outcome. Canva has made comparable moves in marketing automation, while Amazon, Google and Meta continue building their own AI marketing tools in-house. More from ad tech.
